EXPERIENCES

🌲 my Oregon roots

I'm a born and raised Oregonian with a love for the Pacific Northwest and everything that comes with it. From the mountains and trees (which I seriously love) to the culture and people, the atmosphere of my beloved PNW has helped shape me into who I am today. I jump at any opportunity to participate in an activity outside, and giving back to my local community via volunteering is just part of how I show my appreciation.

🎷 marching band

Oregon State University

Being Drum Major of the Oregon State University Marching Band has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As Drum Major, my responsibilities included overseeing the leadership team, collaborating with the staff, communicating with the band, and acting as the figurehead during performances and events.

Oregon City High School

Being a high school drum major really gave me my first experience with collaboration and delegation. As a high school Drum Major, my duties were similar to that of my role at OSU. While working with my peers to lead the band, I gained experience understanding different learning styles and viewpoints.

Leadership Camp

My first summer at leadership camp was when I became drum major between my sophomore and junior years of high school. I attended for 5 years, completing the collegiate track and learning invaluable, transferable skills of leading, following, collaborating, and creating.

Camp Counselor

I've spent nearly every summer at Camp Adams since I was 10 years old, attending first as a camper through high school, and began volunteering as a counselor as young as I was allowed to. Camp gave me the chance to mentor those younger than me, and provide them with engaging activities during the week.

Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts

I participated in Girl Scouts for as long as possible, from Kindergarten through 12th grade and even became a Lifetime Member. Being a Girl Scout is part of how I learned my initial leadership skills, and where I first became comfortable sharing my ideas and finding a passion for creative problem solving. Throughout my years as a Girl Scout, I earned my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.

For my Bronze Award, I planned and hosted a Mother Daughter Tea Party for Girl Scout Troops in the area, including a historical fashion show of Girl Scout uniforms.

For my Silver Award, I ran a jersey drive where I collected new and gently used soccer jerseys as well as items such as soccer balls and cleats to be donated to an orphanage in Mexico that I had visited the year prior.

For my Gold Award, I created, planned, and lead a marching band program at my local middle school that met twice a week throughout the spring in preparation for local parades. Throughout the program I ran the practices, managed the other volunteers, and mentored students excited about joining high school marching band. This was one of my first experiences teaching students, and an amazing opportunity to feel confident in my decision of becoming an educator.

Girl Scout Gold Award

August 2016

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the culmination of a Girl Scout’s experiences, demonstrated via the design and implementation of a project that will create lasting change in their community. Around 6% of Girl Scouts earn their Gold Award annually, and since its inception in 1916 as the β€œGolden Eaglet,” it has been awarded to one million Girl Scouts.

🏫 educational journey

πŸŽ“ Academics

Academics have always been important to me, and I've received tremendous support from my family. During high school I found myself signing up for International Seminar, where I spent several weekends learning more about the world around me. I joined National Honor Society, filled my schedule with AP classes, and graduated with an Advanced Degree which allowed me to graduate from OSU's Education Double Degree program in 4 years.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Social Studies

Teaching social studies has always been my dream. I remember as early as 1st grade declaring it my favorite subject, intrigued by all the different topics we got to learn about. The AP classes I found myself drawn to in high school included several social studies subjects, and by the end of my high school career I was awarded as Social Sciences Student of the Year for my passion and dedication to the subject.

🧠 Psychology

My decision to double major in psychology and education came easy, but not quickly. I shuffled through several majors prior to starting at Oregon State University, trying to figure out the endorsement process. When I finally learned I could major in psychology and receive an endorsement to teach any social studies subject, my decision was made. I fell in love with psychology my senior year of high school, and my long-term teaching goal includes teaching AP Psychology.

πŸ… extracurriculars

🏐 Volleyball

Volleyball was a big part of how I remained active during my elementary and middle school years. Other passions came to the forefront during my high school years, but volleyball was something I found myself drawn back to later in college. Whether it was playing it myself or playing in the pep band at a game, it's a sport I've always loved and recently found my way back to.

🎭 Theater

Theater was a big part of how I learned to express myself early on became comfortable speaking to large groups. I spent many summers cast in a Missoula Children's Theater production, and jumped at any opportunity to take improv classes or star in a school production.
